Thank you, Headmaster. It is such a treat to be back here at St Andrew’s. I absolutely loved my time here; they were some of my happiest years, which makes it so incredibly special to be here today. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that when I had to leave, I told my mother that I was going to come back to be a teacher. While that didn’t quite happen, I was thrilled to have been asked back today on St. Andrew’s Day. It was while I was here at school that I realised my love of sport. Sport has been a huge part of my life, and I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunities I had to get outside and play in such wonderful open spaces – though sadly there was nothing quite as glamorous as this in my time! I hope that you all enjoy playing sport here as much as I used to, and make the most of these incredible facilities. It gives me great pleasure to declare this Astro officially open.201504/371735

Never before in the history of our country have most of the advanced degrees been awarded to women but now they are. Since the dawn of men, its hardly more than 100 years since we were even allowed into these buildings except to clean them, but soon most of law and medical degrees will probably also go to women. Around the world, poor women now own property, who used to be property and according to Economist magazine, for the last two decades, the increase in female employment in the rich world has been the main driving force of growth. Those women have contributed more to global GDP growth than have either new technology or the new giants India or China. Cracks in the ceiling, cracks in the door, cracks in the Court and on the Senate floor. You know, I gave a speech at Vassar 27 years ago. It was a really big hit. Everyone loved it, really. Tom Brokaw said it was the very best commencement speech he had ever heard and of course I believed this. And it was much easier to construct than this one. It came out pretty easily because back then I knew so much. I was a new mother, and I had two academy awards, and it was all, coming together so nicely. I was smart and I understood boiler plate and what sounded good. 201403/280383

Hi, everybody. On Tuesday, I gave my final State of the Union Address. And a focus was this: how do we make the new economy work better for everyone, not just those at the top? After the worst economic crisis of our lifetimes, were in the midst of the longest streak of private-sector job growth in our history. More than 14 million new jobs. An unemployment rate cut in half. At the same time, our economy continues to go through profound changes that began long before the Great Recession hit. Its changed to the point where even when folks have jobs; even when the economy is growing; its harder for working families to pull themselves out of poverty, harder for young people to start out on their careers, and tougher for workers to retire when they want to. Thats a big part of the reason a lot of working families are feeling anxious. And it offends our fundamentally American belief that everybody who works hard should be able to get ahead. Thats why weve been fighting so hard to give families more opportunity and more security – by working to create more good jobs, invest in our middle class, and help working people get a raise. Thats what the Affordable Care Act is all about – filling in the gaps in employer-based care so that when somebody loses a job, or goes back to school, or starts that new business, they still have health care. And its why I believe weve got to take steps to modernize our unemployment insurance system. If a hardworking American loses her job, regardless of what state she lives in, we should make sure she can get unemployment insurance and some help to retrain for her next job. If shes been unemployed for a while, we should reach out to her and connect her with career counseling. And if she finds a new job that doesnt pay as much as her old one, we should offer some wage insurance that helps her pay her bills. Under my plan, experienced workers who now make less than ,000 could replace half of their lost wages – up to ,000 over two years. Its a way to give families some stability and encourage folks to rejoin the workforce – because we shouldnt just be talking about unemployment; we should be talking about re-employment. Thats when America works best – when everyone has opportunity; when everyone has some security; and when everyone can contribute to this country we love. Thats how we make sure that hardworking families can get ahead. And thats what Ill be fighting for with every last day of my presidency. Thanks, everybody. Have a great weekend. 201601/422506

My Lord Mayor, Ladies and Gentlemen, it is again an honour to attend this wonderful dinner and to speak to you as Chancellor for the fifth time.Lord Mayor, I remember coming here to Mansion House, just weeks after the government was formed in 2010 – with Britain on the brink of an economic crisis – to give my first major speech on the task ahead.I set out for you the economic plan we would follow, and I drew on the words Winston Churchill had uttered in this very hall, to say that while Britain could not pretend our travails were at an end, we were at least at the end of the beginning. In the four years since, supported by the resolution and sacrifice of the British people, we have worked through that plan. Now we are starting to see the results:Britain growing faster than any advanced economy in the world.A record number of people in work. Now strong business investment on the back of low business taxes. And a budget deficit this year set to be half what it was.Last week, the IMF said that our resolute fiscal policy had been in their words an ‘anchor for the British economy’ that had maintained confidence and stability in the face of the storm. And I want to say to the business and financial community: you did not waver; you stuck with us and I thank you.But the task is far from complete; and there are many risks to the progress we have made.Abroad, the risks stem from the weak eurozone, unpredictable geopolitics and the slowdown in some emerging markets. At home, our economy is still too unbalanced, so I am the first to say we need to continue our efforts to boost business investment, exports and housing supply. But the biggest risk comes from the tendency in parts of our body politics – the left and now too the populist right – to wage a war on enterprise, regulate prices, propose penal taxes, close Britain to business and return to the old ways of borrow and spend. We must win this battle. And go on confronting Britain’s problems with long term answers that will build an economy for everyone. So while I know this is my fifth speech to you as Chancellor; I hope it is not my last. For I want to finish the job.Lord Mayor, tonight we are joined by someone attending their first Mansion House dinner. Our Governor of the Bank of England.Mark, we all thank you for the integrity, intelligence and international reach you have brought to the challenges of the last year. And we look forward to what you have to say.Our 3 new Deputy Governors – Jon Cunliffe, Ben Broadbent and Minouche Shafik, together with Andrew Bailey, complete what I immodestly think is the strongest team of any central bank in the world. The Court continues the oversight of the Bank’s work, and at the end of this month Anthony Habgood will replace David Lees as its Chair.David, thank you for helping steer the Bank through the big reforms of recent years and the appointment of a new Governor. And thank you too to Charlie Bean for the 6 years he has given our nation as Deputy Governor. We are lucky that one of our greatest economists has chosen to dedicate his life to public service for so long. The Bank of England now sits back where it belongs, at the heart of our financial system – supervising the prudential regulation of our banks and insurers, thanks to the reforms I announced in my first speech here at the Mansion House in 2010.And in each speech since, I have set out new steps to strengthen the resilience of our economy and the financing that underpins it.2011, Ringfencing our retail banks2012, launching funding for LendingLast year, restructuring the Royal Bank of Scotland and firing the starting gun on the sale of our stake in Lloyds. It would be tempting this year, at the Mansion House, to pause for breath. But our task is far from complete – and today I will announce further changes to build that resilient economy for all and the strong, competitive financial services that should contribute to it.201504/368523

South Korean President Park Geun-hye spoke at a joint session of Congress on May 8, 2013. She discussed U.S.-Korean collaboration regarding regional security and economic initiatives.201412/348265And since we had that meeting three and a half years ago,自从我们三年半前开展这儿会议以来its been a heck of a roller coaster. We started with a seed swap, really simple stuff,我们以种子交易开始,很简单的东西and then we took an area of land, a strip on the side然后我们采用了一片土地,在主干道的of our main road, which was a dog toilet, basically,一边,之前基本上是宠物厕所and we turned it into a really lovely herb garden. We took the corner of the car park in the station我们用你们刚刚看到的汽车车站停车场边的角落的土地that you saw, and we made vegetable beds做成了菜畦for everybody to share and pick from themselves. We went to the doctors. Weve just had我们去了诊所,我们刚刚在托德莫登建设了a 6-million-pound health center built in Todmorden,六百万英镑的医疗中心and for some reason that I cannot comprehend,某种程度上我不能理解it has been surrounded by prickly plants. So we went to the doctors, said, ;Would you mind us taking them up?;我们去医生那时,说介意我们把他们拿起来吗?They said, ;Absolutely fine, provided you get planning permission他们说: ;没问题,假设你们计划许可and you do it in Latin and you do it in triplicate,;你们可以在拉丁美洲做,而且把他们翻三倍;so we did--and now there are fruit trees于是我们成功了--现在水果树and bushes and herbs and vegetables灌木丛,草本和蔬菜around that doctors surgery. And theres been lots of other examples, like the corn有很多很多这样的例子,像玉米that was in front of the police station,长在警察局门口and the old peoples home that weve planted it with food和老人们的家里,这样我们就能种植that they can pick and grow. But it isnt just about growing,但这并不仅仅只是生长because we all are part of this jigsaw. Its about taking those artistic people in your community这是关于把社区里有艺术美感的人们带动起来and doing some fabulous designs in those raised beds在培育的土壤床上做一些极好的设计to explain to people whats growing there,来向人们解释什么生长在这里because theres so many people that dont really recognize因为有相当多的人并没意识到a vegetable unless its in a bit of plastic是蔬菜除非在顶部with a bit of an instruction packet on the top. So we have some people who designed these things,于是我们有很多人来设计这样的东西;If it looks like this, please dont pick it, but if it looks like this,“如果是长这样,请勿采摘.但如果是长这样help yourself.;请随意;This is about sharing and investing in kindness.这是关于分享和善意的投资And for those people that dont want to do either同时,对那些不愿意做这些of those things, maybe they can cook,或那些事的人们,也许他们可以下厨so we pick them seasonally and then we go on the street,所以我们季节性摘菜,然后上街or in the pub, or in the church,或进俱乐部,或在教堂or wherever people are living their lives.或人们生活的地方This is about us going to the people and saying,我们来到大家身边说;We are all part of the local food jigsaw,;我们是本地食物拼图的组成部分we are all part of a solution.;我们都是解决方案的一部分;And then, because we know weve got vegetable tourists然后,因为我们知道我们已经有了蔬菜旅客and we love them to bits and theyre absolutely fantastic,我们很乐意他们吃,让他们感觉相当奇妙we thought, what could we do to give them an even better experience?我们在想,我们能做什么才能给他们更好的体验?So we invented, without asking, of course,于是我们创造了,当然没有征求他们的意见the Incredible Edible Green Route.绝佳的可食蔬菜路线And this is a route of exhibition gardens,这是一条花园展览的and edible towpaths, and bee-friendly sites, and the story可食的,没有蜜蜂的,承载传粉故事的路线of pollinators, and its a route that we designed是一条我们设计的路线that takes people through the whole of our town,带领旅客穿过我们城镇past our cafes and our small shops, through our market,路过我们的咖啡馆和小商店,穿过我们的商场not just to and fro from the supermarket,不仅仅是从商场的来回地and were hoping that, in changing peoples footfall我们希望,在改变人们穿行around our town, were also changing their behavior.我们城镇脚步的同时,我们也在改变着他们的行为And then theres the second plate, the learning plate.到这里,就是第二个板块,学习板块Well, were in partnership with a high school.我们在与高校进行合作Weve created a company. We are designing and building我们成立了一个公司,我们正在设计和建设an aquaponics unit in some land that was spare一个在高校后面的空闲土地上的at the back of the high school, like you do,鱼菜共生单元,像你们看到的and now were going to be growing fish and vegetables现在我们准备在一个有蜜蜂的果树林里in an orchard with bees,同时培育鱼和蔬菜and the kids are helping us build that,一些孩子也在帮我们建设and the kids are on the board, and because the community孩子也在会议中,因为社区was really keen on working with the high school,真的相当投入和高校的合作the high school is now teaching agriculture,高校也在教授农业课and because its teaching agriculture, we started to think,由于是在教授农业,我们开始思考how could we then get those kids that never had a qualification我们如何能让那些在过去的人生中before in their lives but are really excited about growing,从没有过任何资质但对培育十分感兴趣的孩子提供机会how can we give them some more experience?我们怎么能给他们更多的经验So we got some land that was donated于是我们得到了by a local garden center.当地园艺中心捐赠的土地It was really quite muddy, but in a truly incredible way,相当潮湿,但是在一种相当惊人的方式下totally voluntary-led, we have turned that完全自愿主导的方式下,我们把它变成了into a market garden training center,一个市场农艺训练中心and that is polytunnels and raised beds那是聚乙烯制温室和培育的温床and all the things you need to get the soil under your fingers还有那些你需要用你手指去拨土的工作and think maybe theres a job in this for me in the future.我还想或许在未来我可以干这么一个工作And because we were doing that, some local academics said,由于我们正在做这个,一些当地学者就说;You know, we could help design;你知道,我们可以为你们设计a commercial horticulture course for you.一个商业园艺学课程Theres not one that we know of.;这不是个我们都知道的东西;So theyre doing that, and were going to launch it later this year,于是他们正在着手做,我们准备在今年晚些时候发布and its all an experiment, and its all voluntary.这一切都只是个实验,都是自愿的And then theres the third plate,这就是第三个板块because if you walk through an edible landscape,因为如果你走过一片有东西吃的地方and if youre learning new skills, and if you start to get如果你正在学项新的技能,如果你开始interested in whats growing seasonally,对这种季节性生长的植物有兴趣you might just want to spend more of your own money你可能想要花自己的一部分钱in support of local producers,用来持当地生产者not just veg, but meat and cheese and beer不仅仅是蔬菜,而且是肉,奶酪和啤酒and whatever else it might be.或者可能是别的什么东西But then, were just a community group, you know.但是说回来,我们只是个社区组织,你们知道的Were just all volunteers. What could we actually do?我们只是志愿者,我们事实上能做什么呢?So we did some really simple things.于是我们做了些简单的事情We fundraised, we got some blackboards,我们募捐,我们得到了些黑板we put ;Incredible Edible; on the top,我们把;不可思议的可食用;写在最上面we gave it every market trader that was selling locally,我们把它发放给每个当地销售的商人and they scribbled on what they were selling in any one week.他们在黑板上写每个礼拜卖出的东西Really popular. People congregated around it.相当受欢迎,人们围着黑板聚集到一起201504/371766

You challenge me every time I play the Nicks, the Heats, I dont think you are with the Lakers, but every time I played against you, you have ;Jordan Stoppers; on your team, you have John Starks who I love. You even had my friend Charles Oakley say ;We cant go to the lunch, we cant go to the dinner, because Pat doesnt believe in friendship between two of us.; And this guy hit me harder than anybody else in the league. He was my best friend. Patrick Erving and I are the same age. We camp up at the same time. But we cant go to the lunch. Why is this an issue? You think I play against Patrick any different than I play anybody else? No, no. And then you had your little guy, who was one of your staffs, and became the Nicks, coach after you, Jeff Van Gundy. He said I cant be a player, because as a friend of them I didnt want to attack them on the basketball court. Where did that come from? I just so happen to be a friendly guy. I get along with everybody, but at the same time when the light comes on, I am as competitive as anybody you know. So you guys, I must say thank you very much for giving me that motivation that I desperately needed. Phil Jackson, to me, is a professional Dean Smith. He challenged me mentally, not just physically. You know, he understood the game, along with Tex Winter. They taught me a lot about the basketball game. Tex being the specialsist, I can never please Tex. And I love Tex. Texis not here. But I know he is here in spirit. 201404/288802I would like to congratulate the government and people of South Africa on your 20th year of democracy. Your peaceful and negotiated transition from the oppressive days of Apartheid to democracy in 1994 served as an inspiration to millions. It was a long and difficult struggle for freedom that cost many lives. Some feared that South Africa’s first truly democratic elections would lead to more violence, but they were proved wrong and the peaceful elections held on this day 20 years ago were a testament to the optimism, the vision and the courage of the new South Africa. As millions of people exercised their right to vote for the first time, you showed the world that democracy and an end to discrimination in all its forms were universal aspirations. And the process of truce, reconciliation and forgiveness initiated by the late Nelson Mandela and led by Archbishop Tutu was an example to us all. Your successful transition demonstrated what a country can achieve and its people stand united in the course of justice and freedom. Since that transition, the links between South Africa and the ed Kingdom have deepened and matured. We are proud to share such strong ties with your country in areas from science to trade to culture, and I hope we can continue to work closely together. Nelson Mandela said at the dawn of democracy in 1994 that South Africa had entered a covenant that would build a society in which all South Africans, black and white, would be able, he said, “to walk tall, without any fear in their hearts, assured of their inalienable right to human dignity—a rainbow nation at peace with itself and the world”. This vision should continue to inspire people across the world for many years to come.201503/361934
