At the dawn of the 21st century a free people must now choose to shape the forces of the Information Age and the global society, to unleash the limitless potential of all our people, and, yes, to form a more perfect union. When last we gathered, our march to this new future seemed less certain than it does today. We vowed then to set a clear course to renew our nation. In these four years, we have been touched by tragedy, exhilarated by challenge, strengthened by achievement. America stands alone as the world s in dispensable nation. Once again, our economy is the strongest on Earth. Once again, we are building stronger families, thriving communities, better educational opportunities, a cleaner environment. Problems that once seemed destined to deepen now bend to our efforts: our streets are safer and record numbers of our fellow citizens have moved from welfare to work. And once again, we have resolved for our time a great debate over the role of government. Today we can declare: Government is not the problem, and government is not the solution. /201304/237175I have been reflecting deeply about my presidency and about the forty years in which my life has been inextricably bound to FIFA and the great sport of football. I cherish FIFA more than anything and I want to do only what is best for FIFA and for football. I felt compelled to stand for re-election, as I believed that this was the best thing for the organisation. That election is over, but FIFAs challenges are not. FIFA needs a profound overhaul. While I have a mandate from the membership of FIFA, I do not feel that I have a mandate from the entire world of football – the fans, the players, the clubs, the people who live, breathe and love football as much as we all do at FIFA. Therefore, I have decided to lay down my mandate at an extraordinary elective Congress. I will continue to exercise my functions as FIFA President until that election. The next ordinary FIFA Congress will take place on 13 May 2016 in Mexico City. This would create unnecessary delay and I will urge the Executive Committee to organise an Extraordinary Congress for the election of my successor at the earliest opportunity. This will need to be done in line with FIFAs statutes and we must allow enough time for the best candidates to present themselves and to campaign. Since I shall not be a candidate, and am therefore now free from the constraints that elections inevitably impose, I shall be able to focus on driving far-reaching, fundamental reforms that transcend our previous efforts. For years, we have worked hard to put in place administrative reforms, but it is plain to me that while these must continue, they are not enough. The Executive Committee includes representatives of confederations over whom we have no control, but for whose actions FIFA is held responsible. We need deep-rooted structural change. The size of the Executive Committee must be reduced and its members should be elected through the FIFA Congress. The integrity checks for all Executive Committee members must be organised centrally through FIFA and not through the confederations. We need term limits not only for the president but for all members of the Executive Committee. I have fought for these changes before and, as everyone knows, my efforts have been blocked. This time, I will succeed. I cannot do this alone. I have asked Domenico Scala to oversee the introduction and implementation of these and other measures. Mr. Scala is the Independent Chairman of our Audit and Compliance Committee elected by the FIFA Congress. He is also the Chairman of the ad hoc Electoral Committee and, as such, he will oversee the election of my successor. Mr. Scala enjoys the confidence of a wide range of constituents within and outside of FIFA and has all the knowledge and experience necessary to help tackle these major reforms. It is my deep care for FIFA and its interests, which I hold very dear, that has led me to take this decision. I would like to thank those who have always supported me in a constructive and loyal manner as President of FIFA and who have done so much for the game that we all love. What matters to me more than anything is that when all of this is over, football is the winner.201507/388167

The supreme commander toying with expendable units in a great campaign. We are still left with a God who can do the tsunami and allow Auschwitz. In his great novel, The Brothers Karamazov, Dostoevsky gives these words to Ivan, addressed to his naive and devout younger brother, Alyosha: If the sufferings of children go to make up the sum of sufferings which is necessary for the purchase of truth, then I say beforehand that the entire truth is not worth such a price. We cannot afford to pay so much for admission. It is not God that I do not accept. I merely, most respectfully, return Him the ticket. Or perhaps God set the whole universe going at the beginning and then relinquished control forever,so that natural processes could occur, and evolution run its course. This seems more acceptable, but it still leaves God with the ultimate moral responsibility. Is God a cold, unfeeling spectator? Or a powerless lover, watching with infinite compassion things God is unable to control or change? Is God intimately involved in our suffering,so that He feels it in His own being? If we believe something like this, we must let go of the puppet-master completely, take our leave of the almighty controller, abandon traditional models. We must think again about God. Maybe God doesnt do things at all. Maybe God isnt an agent like all of us are agents. Early religious thought conceived God as a sort of superhuman person, doing things all over the place. Beating up the Egyptians, drowning them in the Red Sea, wasting cities, getting angry. The people knew their God by His mighty acts. But what if God doesnt act? What if God doesnt do things at all? What if God is in things? The loving soul of the universe. An in-dwelling compassionate presence, underpinning and sustaining all things. What if God is in things? In the infinitely complex network of relationships and connections that make up life. In the natural cycle of life and death,在必然不断发生的生命与死亡、the creation and destruction that must happen continuously. In the process of evolution. In the incredible intricacy and magnificence of the natural world. In the collective unconscious, the soul of the human race. In you, in me, mind and body and spirit. In the tsunami, in the victims. In the depth of things. In presence and in absence. In simplicity and complexity. In change and development and growth. How does this in-ness, this innerness, this interiority of God work?怎么合理诠释上帝的这种 同在性、内性、内在性 ?Its hard to conceive, and begs more questions. Is God just another name for the universe,也许上帝只是宇宙的另一个名字,with no independent existence at all? To what extent can we ascribe personality to God? 201505/375748I told my wife MacKenzie that I wanted to quit my job and go do this crazy thing that probably wouldnt work since most startups dont, and I wasnt sure what would happen after that. MacKenzie, also a Princeton grad and sitting here in the second row, told me I should go for it. As a young boy, Id been a garage inventor. Id invented an automatic gate closer out of cement-filled tires, a solar cooker that didnt work very well, out of an umbrella and aluminum foil, baking-pan alarms to entrap my siblings. Id always wanted to be an inventor, and she wanted me to follow my passion. I was working at a financial firm in New York City with a bunch of very smart people, and I had a brilliant boss that I much admired. I went to my boss and told him I wanted to start a company selling books on the Internet. He took me on a long walk in Central Park, listened carefully to me, and finally said, ;That sounds like a really good idea, but it would be an even better idea for someone who didnt aly have a good job.;我当时在纽约一家金融公司工作,同事是一群非常聪明的人,我的老板也很有智慧,我很钦佩他。 That logic made some sense to me, and he convinced me to think about it for 48 hours before making a final decision. Seen in that light, it really was a difficult choice, but ultimately, I decided I had to give it a shot. I didnt think Id regret trying and failing. And I suspected I would always be haunted by a decision to not try at all. After much consideration, I took the less safe path to follow my passion, and Im pround of that choice. /201309/258414

The other thing is, before we get too arrogant about this 但别骄傲 另外一件事就是 We all spend 99.5% of our time to think about the 0.5% of us is different. Dont we? All of us 是吧 我们所有人 You walk down to the street, by a store window and you see your reflection You think, oh I wish I was a little taller Thats also focus on that 0.5% Now that 0.5% matters, given Einstein the biggest brain ever measured, He made pretty good use of it. Its a good thing That 0.5% means LeBron James is hard to stop if hes driving for the basket The 0.5% matters But so does the 99.5% And thats why this service ethic counts And when you leave here I want you never to forget for the rest of your life, in good times and bad, that you live in an interdependent world 当你们离开之后 我希望你们 这辈子都不要忘记 无论境况好坏 你们生存在一个相互依存的世界中 and weve got to put it together, which means to be a good citizen 我们必须要齐心协力 即要做一位好公民 youve got to do something sometime for somebody else because they are just like you are 你就得在有些时候为他人做些事情 因为他们正像你一样 That is really, really important The last point I wanna make is very good economics A few years ago, an American journalist named James Surowiecki 索罗维基的美国记者 wrote a book called The Wisdom of Crowds, in which he chronicled all these experiments which all come down to this 写了一本书 名为群众的智慧 书中他记录了所有的实验结果 最终可归结为一点 If I pick twenty of you at random from this crowd, and I put you in a nice room in Howard 201507/386429And at current rates it wont be until 2086 before all rural African girls can have a secondary education. If you believe in equality, you might be one of those inadvertent feminists I spoke of earlier. And for this I applaud you. We are struggling for a uniting word but the good news is that we have a uniting movement. It is called HeForShe. (HeForShe)。I am inviting you to step forward, to be seen and to ask yourself, “If not me, who? If not now, when?” 如果不是现在,要到何时?”Thank you very, very much.

But you learn lessons from these things that happen to you. I learned to be always there. The first thing, I got out of jail,我从监狱出来的第一件事of course after I took a shower, I went online,当然我先洗了个澡I opened my Twitter account and my Facebook page,我上网打开推特账号和脸谱and Ive been always very respectful我对那些对我发表意见的人to those people who are opining to me. I would listen to what they say,我总是听听他们的想法and I would never defend myself with words only. I would use actions. When they said I should withdraw from the campaign,我会采取行动,当他们都说我应该退出这项行动时I filed the first lawsuit against the general directorate我对管理总局发了第一封投诉of traffic police for not issuing me a drivers license. There are a lot of people also --也有些人们很持我very big support, like those 3,000 people譬如那3000个who signed the petition to release me. We sent a petition to the Shura Council我们写了一封请愿书给协商议院in favor of lifting the ban on Saudi women,想要为妇女开车解禁and there were, like, 3,500 citizens who believed in that有大概3500位公民持and they signed that petition. There were people like that, I just showed some examples,有一些这样的人,我只是举个例子who are amazing, who are believing in womens rights in Saudi Arabia,他们令人吃惊,他们觉得沙特阿拉伯的女性应该拥有合法权利and trying, and they are also facing a lot of hate有关由于公开讲话和表白他们的这一看法because of speaking up and voicing their views. The Shura Council thats appointed by the king,由阿卜杜拉国王的皇家法令认可by royal decree of King Abdullah,我们国家国王指定的协商议院last year there were 30 women assigned to that Council,去年已经有了约30位议员like 20 percent.大约是百分之2020 percent of the Council. The same time, finally, that Council,同时,协商议院after rejecting our petition four times for women driving,在先前驳回允许妇女驾车的请愿书4次后they finally accepted it last February. After being sent to jail曾经会被送入监狱or sentenced lashing, or sent to a trial,被判决鞭刑,或者发往审判the spokesperson of the traffic police said,交通部门的发言人后来说we will only issue traffic violation for women drivers. The Grand Mufti, who is the head在沙特阿拉伯的宗教领袖of the religious establishment in Saudi Arabia,大穆夫提,表示he said, its not recommended for women to drive. It used to be haram, forbidden, by the previous Grand Mufti. So for me, its not about only these small steps. A friend once asked me, she said,我的一个朋友曾经问我,她说;So when do you think this women driving will happen?;“那你觉得我们女性什么时候才会普遍开起车来?”I told her, ;Only if women stop asking When?我告诉她 “除非你停止问‘什么时候’这种问题and take action to make it now.;而立刻行动起来”So its not only about the system,我认为,这不仅关乎社会意识形态its also about us women to drive our own life, Id say. So I have no clue, really, how I became an activist. And I dont know how I became one now. But all I know, and all Im sure of, in the future但我知道,我也确信when someone asks me my story,当以后有人让我讲起我的故事I will say, ;Im proud我会说“能成为那些to be amongst those women who lifted the ban,激起禁忌,与之战斗并最终赢得每个人的自由fought the ban, and celebrated everyones freedom.;那广大妇女中的一员,我非常自豪”So the question I started my talk with,回到最一开始我提出的问题who do you think is more difficult to face,对抗政府或者挑战传统社会oppressive governments or oppressive societies?你觉得哪个更难?I hope you find clues to answer that from my speech. 201509/401473Hi, everybody. Im speaking to you today from Springfield, Illinois. I spent eight years in the state senate here. It was a place where, for all our surface differences in a state as diverse as Illinois, my colleagues and I actually shared a lot in common. We fought for our principles, and voted against each other, but because we assumed the best in one another, not the worst, we found room for progress. We bridged differences to get things done. In my travels through this state, I saw most Americans do the same. Folks know that issues are complicated, and that people with different ideas might have a point. It convinced me that if we just approached our politics the same way we approach our daily lives, with common sense, a commitment to fairness, and the belief that were all in this together, theres nothing we cant do. Thats why I announced, right here, in Springfield that I was running for President. And my faith in the generosity and fundamental goodness of the American people is rewarded every day. But Ill be the first to admit that the tone of our politics hasnt gotten better, but worse. Too many people feel like the system is rigged, and their voices dont matter. And when good people are pushed away from participating in our public life, more powerful and extreme voices will fill the void. Theyll be the ones who gain control over decisions that could send a young soldier to war, or allow another economic crisis, or roll back the rights that generations of Americans have fought to secure. The good news is theres also a lot we can do about this, from reducing the influence of money in our politics, to changing the way we draw congressional districts, to simply changing the way we treat each other. Thats what I came back here to talk about this week. And I hope you check out my full speech at WhiteHouse.gov. One thing I focused on, for example, was how we can make voting easier, not harder, and modernize it for the way we live now. Here in Illinois, a new law allows citizens to register and vote at the polls on Election Day. It also expands early voting, which makes it much easier for working folks and busy parents. Were also considering automatic voter registration for every citizen when they apply for a drivers license. And Im calling on more states to adopt steps like these. Because when more of us vote, the less captive our politics will be to narrow interests – and the better our democracy will be for our children. Nine years after I first announced for this office, I still believe in a politics of hope. And for all the challenges of a changing world; for all the imperfections of our democracy; choosing a politics of hope is something thats entirely up to each of us. Thanks, everybody.
