A new audio message, directed at the American people - purported to be from al-Qaida mastermind Osama bin Laden - claims the President Barack Obama will find himself powerless to halt the American-led war in Afghanistan. The latest audio recording, attributed to Bin Laden, again attempts to justify al-Qaida's September 11, 2001, terror attack on the ed States as being part of the group's quest for the liberation of Palestine. The tape was provided by an American-based firm - IntelCenter, which monitors terrorist propaganda. It says the 11-minute shows a still picture of bin Laden while audio of the address plays. In the recording, the man identified as Bin Laden reiterates long-standing grievances including American support for Israel and "some other injustices." He puts forward a ing list of recent books, including one by a former CIA agent, which the tape says will clarify the "message" of the terrorist attack eight years ago. The recording notes that the Obama administration includes key figures from the previous Bush administration, including Defense Secretary Robert Gates. The voice, believed to be that of Bin Laden, thus concludes President Obama is a weakened man and powerless to change course in Afghanistan because of "pressure groups." And, if he tries, the tape says "his fate will be feared" to be like that of the assassinated President John Kennedy and his brother, Robert. It is the first message believed to be from the reclusive terrorist leader since one in June, in which bin Laden accused President Obama of sowing new seeds of hatred against America among Muslims. The ed States now has about 60,000 troops in Afghanistan - the largest contingent in the 42-nation international force. Following the September 2001 attack, the ed States invaded to oust the Taliban from power in Kabul. The Taliban had given safe haven to al-Qaida, which had carried out the hijacking of four airliners to attack New York and Washington, in which more than 3,000 people died. Bin Laden is believed to be in hiding in Pakistan, along the remote mountainous terrain border with Afghanistan. Pakistani leaders have recently said they believe the terrorist leader is dead. But top American officials say there is no credible evidence to confirm that. The audio recording, posted on a web site, includes an undated photograph of the al-Qaida leader. There is also a scene of a banner with an American flag in the background and the New York City skyline with the destroyed World Trade Center twin towers. No fresh images of Bin Laden appear. He was last seen in that coincided with the sixth anniversary of the 9/11 attack. 09/84248

How does the bureau use informants to bring dangerous criminals to justice? They have several top-secret strategies which we are about to reveal. FBI inspector Bob Garrity says the first step is to find a disgruntled member who is willing to betray his group and work as a spy. In the case of the oil refinery bombing, they enlisted an unlikely ally Bob Spence, one of the highest-ranking members of the KKK. Our confidential source who was a member, in fact he was the grand wizard of the True Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, normally would not be the kind of person that we would be cooperating with. He came to us and told us about members of his Klansmen who were discussing a conspiracy, discussing a crime that he just could not tolerate. Why would a lifelong member of the Klan turn against his friends? Garrity says people usually become FBI informants because they face criminal charges and have worked out a deal with the Feds. But Bob Spencer apparently had a different motive. My incentive of going to the FBI was to save lives. To me, be an informant meant that I was doing something to help my country. And that's why, and I felt good about it. Regardless of his good intentions, Spence couldn't possibly gather evidence against the Klan on his own. So the FBI assigns him a top-secret liaison called a handler to guide his every move. Agents who are very good source handlers have, you know, very good interpersonal skills, and they're able to take the source's fears, take his concerns and try to reassure him that we are out there, he is safe, we're gonna do whatever we can to protect him. In this case, Spence's handler is special agent Morgan Bodie. I was his only go-between as far as between Mr. Spence and the FBI. So he had to trust me completely. That trust is tested for agonizing 28 days as Spence leads a double life collecting information for the FBI. Spence knows he is risking his life as well as the safety of his family. I know how paranoid the Klan is. And if they would suspect someone who to be an informant, they won't hesitate to deal with them, and the bad thing is they don't deal just with them, they deal with the family also, you know, try to arrest the family who run them out of the county. The informant, he is dead meat. They still are around willing to do it.201001/93938

Central banks target credit crunchZeb Bham of Corporate FX on a federal interest rate cut and central banks' decision to help end credit woesA: What do you make of this decision by the, by the central banks to, to club together to ensure that, the credit market doesn’t freeze up ? B: I think Wednesday’s report that they were working together to auction off the, er… extra funds, er… over a 3-month period was sort of er…seen as a bit of er… a bit of positive for the markets and we saw most of the stock markets rally. But since then, the markets had digested that information and realized that this injection isn’t really going to er…alleviate the problems that we’ve seen in the credit crunch.A: It was like the interests rate cut, wasn’t it? Really, the day before, where from the Fed, it was an interests rate cut which everyone wanted, everyone said we were gonna get, but it didn’t go quite far enough. It was the same with…with what the central banks did, we are talking about a lot of money in you and me terms, something like 49 billion dollars, but it’s in banking terms, it’s a relatively small amount, isn’t it?B: Yeah, it indeed. It is a relatively small amount, and because it’s for such a short period of time. That’s the reason why the markets have taken this negative impact. I mean in Asia, we’ve seen the… the stock markets over there, react pretty badly, and the Asian Central Bankers haven’t really followed suit with what the Europeans and the Americans are doing, but the fears are still there that if the credit crunch continues, they could see their exports being crippled.A: And what do you make of the… the interests rate cut by the Fed earlier in the week, a quarter of a percentage point, er.. it was what everyone wanted, as I said, but the reaction was more sort of “Come on guys, what planet are you living on there in the…in the Fed, you know, living in the same world as the rest of us?”B: Exactly, I think it was mu(ch), came out much in lie, er… however, the rhetoric after meeting suggested that they are sort of …paving way for further rate cuts despite the inflation being pretty high, we saw both RPI and PPI coming out stronger than expected, em… and also we got CPI this afternoon, if we see this hotter than expected, it’s aly expected to come out at 4.1%, even if you strip out food and oil from there, it's still expected to come out at 2.3 which is above the Fed's two percent target.A: It’s interesting to hear you talk about inflation, and the Fed obviously sounded a lot of caution about inflation, and yet we had a survey out earlier this week which said that most of the American public thinks that the economy is aly in recession.B: Exactly, em… I think the, the word rather than recession is stagflation. We have, we are having problems with inflation at the moment, and the Fed with the difficult position of trying to control that, while it's at the same time, trying to prevent the er… American economy going into recession, and that’s where we see the rate cuts coming into play, the question now is whether the rate cuts are going to fuel inflation, or whether they are going to control er…growth as the U.S. is expecting.A: And what’s your gut feeling about the CPI today with Bridge Rick and ...?B: I think CPI’s gonna come out slightly hotter than expected, em… mostly due to higher fuel and energy cost, and the RPI and PPI gave us that direction as well. If we see it come out hotter, I think the Fed are gonna have to make another difficult rate decision about whether they are going to raise rates in January, and the …interesting to know the interests rate futures market is still predicting, 100% chance that the Fed are going to raise rate in January.

The U.N. Conference on Trade and Development, or UNCTAD, reports that global foreign direct investment fell drastically last year and that it is expected to continue to slide this year, with significant recovery not forecast until 2011. But the UNCTAD World Investment Report says developing countries are doing better in attracting foreign direct investment, or FDI, than the developed countries. The report estimates that foreign direct investment inflows will fall from .7 trillion in 2008 to less than .2 trillion this year. But it is expected to pick up slowly next year and gather momentum in 2011, approaching .8 trillion. UNCTAD says the crisis has changed, what it calls, the "FDI landscape". It says the large decline in FDI inflows to developed countries has resulted in a surge of foreign investments in developing and transition economies. Nevertheless, the report says the ed States remains the world's largest recipient of foreign direct investment, followed by France, China, the ed Kingdom and the Russian Federation. In previous years, cross border mergers and acquisitions were a major source of growth of FDI. These too, says the report, have declined considerably as financial markets seized up in the second half of 2008. The report notes a general absence in projectionist policies despite the global economic recession. But UNCTAD Secretary-General, Supachai Panitchpakdi says governments have pursued trade policies favorable to domestically-produced goods and services. There are examples of the so-called 'covert protectionism,' which includes something like, as you can see, you know buy local, hire local, invest local, lend local, do anything local," he said. "So some of this economic nationalism trend favoring products with high domestic content with regard to government procurement. And you can see this is greatly linked to the stimulus measures, particularly in areas of public infrastructure projects." The UNCTAD report also focuses on agriculture, including the crucial issues of fighting hunger, promoting food security and fostering sustainable agricultural development as a pre-requisite for economic growth. The report says foreign direct investment can play a major role in helping developing countries enhance their agricultural sectors. Supachai Panitchpakdi says investment funds from private sources could help spark a green revolution in Africa. FDI by itself would not be able to do all this," said Supachai. "But I am sure it would help to give impetus to the government policies, to support government policies in areas that technology would be needed, to help create employment that would instill the sense of belief in the farming sector that could give the livelihood to the people and therefore people would remain involved in farming activities." The UNCTAD Secretary-General says the green revolution in Asia during the 1960s was triggered when fertilizer, seeds and farming technology became ily available. He says Africa could achieve similar results if it invests private money into the technologies needed to increase food production in an environmentally sustainable way. 09/84463

Pakistan and China巴基斯坦与中国Sweet as can be? Even an all-weather friendship has limits May 12th 2011 | BEIJING AND ISLAMABAD | fromThe Economist print edition Come rain or shine风雨无阻PAKISTAN’S ambassador to Beijing, Masood Kahn, was this week fully armed with metaphors to describe the robust friendship between the two countries. “We say it is higher than the mountains, deeper than the oceans, stronger than steel, dearer than eyesight, sweeter than honey, and so on.” The relationship is indeed a geopolitical keystone for both countries. Pakistan serves as China’s closest friend both in South Asia and among Islamic countries. So close, indeed, that many suspect China has asked Pakistan for the valuable remains of the American stealth helicopter abandoned during the bin Laden raid. Meanwhile, China can help counterbalance Pakistan’s arch-rival, India, including in Afghanistan. Pakistan seems keen to foster the impression that new tensions with America might nudge it even closer towards China. In his blustery speech to parliament on May 9th Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani struck out on an odd tangent to praise China as an “all-weather friend”, providing Pakistan with strength and inspiration. Not to be outdone, President Asif Zardari issued an effusive statement of his own about a friendship “not matched by any other relationship between two sovereign countries”. 201105/136856。

OECD says Unemployment Will Continue to RiseOECD:工业化国家失业率持续攀升 Despite reports that many industrialized economies are beginning to emerge from their worst economic crisis in decades, unemployment is rising and will likely reach a historic peak of nearly 10 percent next year. The findings come from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris. Indications that unemployment continues to rise is grim news for leaders heading to the G-20 summit in the ed States next week. The Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development reports unemployment reached its highest level among industrialized nations of 8.5 percent in July. OECD unemployment division chief Stephan Scarpetta says the number of jobless among the OECD's 30 member countries is expected to climb even higher next year, to nearly 10 percent. That translates into 57 million people out of work. Unfortunately, despite the most recent indicators that suggest the [economic] recovery may be in sight somewhat earlier than we were expecting only a few months ago, it will take far [longer] for the recovery to materialize in terms of significant improvement in the labor market," he said.“不幸的是,尽管最近绝大多数指标都显示,经济复苏可能已经出现,比我们几个月前的预期有所提前,但是这次复苏可能需要更长的时间才能转化成劳工市场的显著改善。”The ed States, Spain and Ireland are among those countries with the fastest rising unemployment. All three were affected by the collapse of high housing prices. The damage sp to other sectors of the economy. Scarpetta says young people are among the hardest hit. In Spain, for example, more than one in three young workers are unemployed. So as world leaders discuss the financial and economic crisis during their meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Scarpetta says it is important they also address the social dimensions of the crisis - like unemployment. The good news is that countries have aly acted quite quickly and decisively, I would say," he said. "Part of the stimulus packages have been additional resources for labor markets and social policies."“好消息是:各国已经迅速和果断地采取了行动。 But efforts by governments to extend and prolong unemployment benefits, and to offer more job counseling and training have not kept up with the rising numbers of jobless. Scarpetta says that means countries will need to target their resources more selectively and to ensure that the most vulnerable members of the labor force benefit.

Happiness is in your DNA; and different races may have different propensities for it基因决定幸福;而不同种族的幸福倾向不尽相同 Born smiling? 天生会笑?THE idea that the human personality is a blank slate, to be written upon only by experience, prevailed for most of the second half of the 20th century. Over the past two decades, however, that notion has been undermined. Studies comparing identical with non-identical twins have helped to establish the heritability of many aspects of behaviour, and examination of DNA has uncovered some of the genes responsible. Recent work on both these fronts suggests that happiness is highly heritable. As any human being knows, many factors govern whether people are happy or unhappy. External circumstances are important: employed people are happier than unemployed ones and better-off people than poor ones. Age has a role, too: the young and the old are happier than the middle-aged. But personality is the single biggest determinant: extroverts are happier than introverts, and confident people happier than anxious ones. That personality, along with intelligence, is at least partly heritable is becoming increasingly clear; so, presumably, the tendency to be happy or miserable is, to some extent, passed on through DNA. To try to establish just what that extent is, a group of scientists from University College, London; Harvard Medical School; the University of California, San Diego; and the University of Zurich examined over 1,000 pairs of twins from a huge study on the health of American adolescents. In “Genes, Economics and Happiness”, a working paper from the University of Zurich’s Institute for Empirical Research in Economics, they conclude that about a third of the variation in people’s happiness is heritable. That is along the lines of, though a little lower than, previous estimates on the subject. But while twin studies are useful for establishing the extent to which a characteristic is heritable, they do not finger the particular genes at work. One of the researchers, Jan-Emmanuel De Neve, of University College, London, and the London School of Economics, has tried to do just that, by picking a popular suspect—the gene that encodes the serotonin-transporter protein, a molecule that shuffles a brain messenger called serotonin through cell membranes—and examining how variants of that gene affect levels of happiness. Serotonin is involved in mood regulation. Serotonin transporters are crucial to this job. The serotonin-transporter gene comes in two functional variants—long and short. The long one produces more transporter-protein molecules than the short one. People have two versions (known as alleles) of each gene, one from each parent. So some have two short alleles, some have two long ones, and the rest have one of each. The adolescents in Dr De Neve’s study were asked to grade themselves from very satisfied to very dissatisfied. Dr De Neve found that those with one long allele were 8% more likely than those with none to describe themselves as very satisfied; those with two long alleles were 17% more likely. 17%。Which is interesting. Where the story could become controversial is when the ethnic origins of the volunteers are taken into account. All were Americans, but they were asked to classify themselves by race as well. On average, the Asian Americans in the sample had 0.69 long genes, the black Americans had 1.47 and the white Americans had 1.12. That result sits comfortably with other studies showing that, on average, Asian countries report lower levels of happiness than their GDP per head would suggest. African countries, however, are all over the place, happinesswise. But that is not surprising, either. Africa is the most genetically diverse continent, because that is where humanity evolved (Asians, Europeans, Aboriginal Australians and Amerindians are all descended from a few adventurers who left Africa about 60,000 years ago). Black Americans, mostly the descendants of slaves carried away from a few places in west Africa, cannot possibly be representative of the whole continent. That some populations have more of the long version of the serotonin-transporter gene has been noticed before, though the association has previously been made at a national, rather than a racial, level. In a paper in the Proceedings of the Royal Society, published in , Joan Chiao and Katherine Blizinsky of Northwestern University, in Illinois, found a positive correlation between higher levels of the short version of the gene and mood disorders (China and Japan have lots of both) and with collectivist political systems. Their hypothesis is that cultures prone to anxiety tend towards systems that emphasise social harmony and away from ones that emphasise individuals’ independence of each other. This latter study may be a few steps too far along the road to genetic determinism for some people. But there is growing interest in the study of happiness, not just among geneticists but also among economists and policymakers dissatisfied with current ways of measuring humanity’s achievements. Future work in this field will be avidly in those circles. 201110/158149Economy, Job Losses Critical for Voters in Ohio选战必争俄亥俄 经济裁员关注多 The faltering U.S. economy and the loss of manufacturing jobs in the Midwestern U.S. state of Ohio are dominating the presidential election contest there, and that could spell trouble for Republican candidate John McCain. McCain needs to win the Ohio vote to have any hope of becoming the next president. Analysts are keeping a close eye on the state, which has gone for the winner in the last 11 presidential elections. Experts say social issues have helped swing the state to the Republican side in the last two elections. Economic issues are on the minds of Ohio voters this year, and that could help Democratic candidate Barack Obama. Ron Davis started his career as a steelworker in Ohio 29 years ago. "And their future's the one I'm worried about." That worry is translating into action at the local Union hall where members who usually support Republicans are campaigning for Democratic candidates. Ron Davis says that this year, things are different. This year, the scales are tipped," he said. "And I think you're going to see a lot of Republicans voting for Obama this year." Presidential elections are usually hard-fought battles in Ohio, and public opinion polls show that the race between Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama is close. Rural central Ohio often goes Republican. Most of the big cities - Cleveland in the northeast, Columbus in the middle - lately have supported Democrats. So do industrial towns, such as Youngstown in the northeast. During his campaign visits to the state, Senator Obama has focused on the economic crisis he says is the worst since the Great Depression of the 1930s. I don't have to tell you, Ohio, 760,000 workers have lost their jobs so far this year," said Barack Obama. Senator McCain has tried to counter that message, warning Ohio voters that Obama would increase their taxes. He believes in redistributing the wealth not in policies that grow our economy and create jobs and opportunities for all Americans," said John McCain. Around the city of Youngstown, many manufacturing jobs have been lost. An aluminum plant on the outskirts of the city closed last year. Although Democrats are running strong here, retired union leader, Mike Rubicz, says many voters feel conflicted. Because on one hand, there's a concern about Obama in terms of his experience and the fact that he's a black man and, at the same time, they don't see that McCain really has a program to help them," said Mike Rubicz. Although Democrats appear to be using the faltering economy to their advantage, Youngstown Republicans like McCain volunteer Tracey Winbush say they are making headway. It's the economy," said Tracey Winbush. "It is social issues." We pray for the president," said Chuck Michaelis. "We pray for the vice president." Chuck Michaelis leads a Wednesday evening prayer group. Religion is a powerful political motivator in Ohio, especially among abortion opponents like Kevin Dill."I probably lean more towards the Republican side," said Kevin Dill. "But I would say that's mainly because I have been more impressed with Sarah Palin."Despite the efforts of John McCain and his vice presidential running mate, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, many Democrats say they will vote for Barack Obama and his running mate Senator Joe Biden. And while many social conservatives favor John McCain, some, like Diana Anderson, are reconsidering. Ya, I had to relook at things and study harder and I'm back to where I'm definitely going to vote for Obama," said Diana Anderson. Opinion polls show the race between McCain and Obama is still too close to call, as Ohio's wrenching economic transformation will play a key role in the election. Both candidates are counting on victory in Ohio to give them the edge in the state-by-state battle to win the 270 electoral votes necessary to claim the White House. 200811/54690Seven People Killed in Kashmir Violence印控克什米尔暴力冲突致7人丧生 Fighting between suspected Muslim militants and Indian troops in a forest area of Indian administered Kashmir has entered its fourth day on Sunday. The violence began on Thursday, when Indian troops attacked suspected militant hideouts in a mountainous forest area near Mendhar in Poonch district of Indian administered Kashmir. The area is close to the line of control that divides Kashmir between India and Pakistan. The Indian wire agency Press Trust of India ed unnamed officials as saying that up to ten militants were hiding in the area including some top commanders of two to three Muslim militant groups. It reported that heavy fog and low visibility were prolonging the encounter. S. N. Acharya, an army spokesman in Jammu, said the exact number of militant was not known. The Encounter at Chattral area in Batidhar forests is still on. The Exact number [of militants] I don't have, but there may be a group of militants," said S. N. Acharya. It is one of the longest skirmishes in recent months, and the first since the legislative elections in Indian administered Kashmir held in November and December. The elections saw over 60 per cent turnout despite a boycott call by Kashmiri separatists, who argued that the polls strengthen India's hold over the disputed region. The Kashmiri government is expected to assume office on Monday, when Omar Abdullah, a third generation politician, will take over as the chief minister of Indian administered Kashmir.

The International Monetary Fund, with the concurrence of the ed States, has agreed lend Belarus .5 billion to help it deal with effects of the global economic crisis. The IMF decision Wednesday reflects a thaw in relations between the authoritarian government in Minsk and the ed States and the rest of Europe. Belarus has joined several other European countries, including Iceland and Hungary, in gaining IMF credit lines to help it weather the financial crisis, which has caused the central European country's exports and currency reserves to wither in recent months. The managing-director of the Washington-based IMF, Dominique Strauss-Kahn of France, announced the 15-month stand-by credit arrangement Wednesday. The IMF governing board must still approve the offer, but that is considered pro-forma. Belarus, which recently obtained a two-billion-dollar loan from neighboring Russia, sought the IMF credit line in October as its monetary reserves dwindled along with income from key exports such as potash and refined oil products. The IMF agreement marks a further easing of the international isolation of the government of President Alexander Lukashenko. The former Soviet official has ruled the country with an authoritarian hand since 1994, but has recently made a number of conciliatory gestures to the West including the release of the last three government detainees considered political prisoners. Asked about the IMF decision, State Department Acting Spokesman Gordon Duguid said U.S. efforts to engage with the Minsk government have produced at least some limited gains. The Belarusians have a long way to go, particularly on their human rights record. However, the engagement that we've started with the Belarusians has produced some results," he said. "This is not to say we'll stop reminding them that their human rights record needs much improvement, that their process for starting a more representative form of government needs to be much improved. But we're doing that through engagement." The Bush administration welcomed the release last August of the remaining Belarusian political prisoners including opposition figure Alexander Kozulin, and opened a high-level dialogue with the Minsk government. However, it joined European allies in expressing disappointment over the conduct of parliamentary elections in Belarus in September that did not yield a single seat for opposition candidates and which the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the OSCE, said fell short of international standards. Spokesman Duguid said another problem issue in the bilateral relationship is the case of Emanuel Zeltzer, a Russian-born U.S. citizen convicted of industrial espionage in Belarus in August and given a three-year prison term.He said the ed States has no way to assess the fairness of the case against Zeltser because his trial was closed. The ed States continues to call for his release on humanitarian grounds because of reports he is failing health.01/60228Floating Paradise Man builds Mexican Island Paradise on 250,000 Recycled Floating Bottles Castaways like Robinson Crusoe and even Tom Hanks didn’t intend on living on a deserted isle, but this next guy did. I mean when he couldn’t find an island to call his own, he created an unbelievable floating paradise out of this. This man has given up his job, his family and all of his material possessions to run away and live on a secluded island paradise, a paradise made from plastic bottles. It’s taken me two and a half years from the beginning, from the first bottle collection to get to this point now and I’m quite happy with the progress. It was over two years ago Richie Sowa gave up his job as a carpenter and moved to Mexico in search of a simpler life. He made his way to the sandy shore of Cancun. He started collecting bottles for cash and that’s when he came up with an unbelievable idea, to build himself an island he can claim as his own. The collecting of the bottles I started by hand first, just going round the, the local town picking them up.Have a great day!Cheers.See ya.Thanks.This floating island is the links of a professional tennis court. Richie gathered thousands of bottles and started stuffing them in fishnets to create the foundation. Well, this is the zone - total of three years’ work. It took me the first six months to just to get a base, which was about, that’s about 15 meters across and about 20 meters long. It took me about 4 months to get a base of around 7 or 8 meters that I started to put plants on.Richie placed bamboo and plywood on top of the foundation of bottles, paddling back and forth over and over every day, scooping sand off the shore to build his own private beach. But the biggest challenge was trying to grow plants on the plastic bottle barge. These are mangroves that were planted just a few months ago and they are growing really, really well. You can feel how...These are mangroves that were planted like 4 or 5 months ago. They’ve got stems on them now, like trees, palm trees. This will be a lemon tree.Today this real-life survivor is totally self-sufficient, growing bananas, coconuts, spinach, almonds and tomatoes on this island. He’s even built a solar cooker, collects rain to water the plants and even made a washing machine out of a plastic drum that rolls in the waves. This is one island cast-away who never needs to leave, but if the truth to be told, Richie is never alone on this island. We have quite a few inhabitants on the island at the moment. It’s me, my cat Bonita, and my second cat Eezy, a little dog Rainbow, two chickens, Browny and Blacky and the duck, the heart of the island, Korasong. This barbing island of bottles has proven to be quite seaworthy as well, surviving two hurricanes and several tropical storms. And now even the Mexican government wants to recognize the private paradise, declaring the island as Mexican soil for tourists to visit. But Richie has another idea for his paradise. Every day he adds bottles to make his island bigger. His goal is to one day float out to sea and eventually drift around the world on the island he built with his own two hands. One day we’ll sail out on the ocean and become a small floating country.01/61131

Competing rallies have been held in Washington on the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, offering different visions for America's future. We must restore America and restore her honor," she said. 201008/112582

Second, it would not restore Greece to debt sustainability. Third, it would cut off Greece from potentially vital lines of support.” 201107/143069

The ongoing dispute between Russia and Ukraine has halted or sharply limited gas deliveries to several European countries. There was no immediate reaction to the Russian summit proposal from Ukraine or the countries affected by the gas cutoff. The three visiting prime ministers also met with their Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, who blamed Ukraine for failure to honor a multilateral agreement to resume shipment of gas to Europe. Mr. Putin told his guests the important thing is that Russia opened the valve in the direction of their countries and is prepared to deliver, but he said the valve on the Ukrainian side is closed and they are not transferring the gas. In Kyiv, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said the full resumption of gas deliveries to Europe were being delayed because the small amount of gas provided by Russia does not create the pressure needed transport the gas through the pipeline. Ms. Tymoshenko says another consideration is that Russia tried to send the fuel through a pipeline where Ukrainian gas has been flowing in the opposite direction to service eastern Ukraine, which makes it impossible to deliver gas to Europe along that route. Meanwhile, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso is warning that he will recommend legal action against the gas companies of Russian and Ukraine, if they do not restore the flow of gas soon. Russia is also threatening to sue Ukraine to recover export losses that Gazprom Chairman Miller says currently amount to .1 billion. Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek, whose country now holds the European Union presidency, says the EU should increase efforts to build the Nabucco pipeline, which would circumvent Russia.
